“We have a gentlemen’s agreement,” Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro said, which in football terms usually means, “We won’t stop him unless we feel like it.” But in this case, it seems legit. If Real Madrid come calling (and we all know they will), Leverkusen won’t stand in Xabi’s way. Respect.
Carro added that a decision will arrive “in the next three or four weeks,” which is executive speak for: "We know he’s leaving, we’re just waiting for the ink to dry."
