Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso agenda is picking up steam, and it sounds like Bayer Leverkusen are already packing his metaphorical suitcase.
“We have a gentlemen’s agreement,” Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro said, which in football terms usually means, “We won’t stop him unless we feel like it.” But in this case, it seems legit. If Real Madrid come calling (and we all know they will), Leverkusen won’t stand in Xabi’s way. Respect.
Carro added that a decision will arrive “in the next three or four weeks,” which is executive speak for: "We know he’s leaving, we’re just waiting for the ink to dry."
Let’s be honest, if you’ve ever watched Xabi Alonso in a tracksuit silently judging from the touchline, you already know he was born to coach Real Madrid. It’s only fitting the club that shaped his elite midfield brain might now hand him the master key.
And hey, it’s nice to see a club handle things without drama for once. No cryptic Instagram stories. No midnight press releases. Just a casual heads-up that one of Europe’s brightest coaching minds is probably off to manage one of the biggest clubs in the world. No big deal.
